Stockholm, day 9

Our last day in Stockholm... mostly spent in Gamla stan and now at the airport Arlanda. We enjoyed a very nice dessert at Chocoladkoppen (iced chocolate milk and a "blueberry dream ice cream"). Also had a blueberry muffin at the airport.
We're boarding in an hour...
Next stop: Amsterdam, then... Oxford! 
Lots of love,
Lisa

Stockholm, day 8

Hej!
Today was a lovely day, the sun was shining and it was about 25°C. We went to Djurgården and Skansen. The first is a nice park; the latter an open air museum. The nature here is beautiful. I'm going to miss it here!

Stockholm, day 7

After all these fully planned days, it was nice to have a little rest day today. I did go to Gamla stan though to get some souvenirs :)

Stockholm, day 6

It was a rainy day, so we decided to go to the Moderna Museet. Also enjoyed a little fika at the Espresso Bar :)

Stockholm, day 5

Hey!
While writing this I am enjoying a glass of blåbär dryck (blueberry drink), very typical Swedish!
Today we went to Bergianska Trädgården, a very idyllic park including a botanical garden.
First we went to a giant rock, where we enjoyed our breakfast. Afterwards, we went climbing some rocks and sat in the sun for a while. We also walked a few miles. It was a very sunny day, so I even got a little tan!
Hejdå!

Stockholm, day 4

Hej,
Today was a calm day - however, we took a boat trip and it was fantastic!
Seeing Stockholm from the water really made me want to live there. What a lovely city.
There also was some kind of a culture festival, where they were making a castle out of cardboard. How fun!

Stockholm, day 3

Hejhej,
Today, we went to the Naturhistoriska riksmuseet, a very entertaining and interactive museum. Here some photo's so you get an impression (note the toilet sign - yay for gender equality!)

Stockholm, day 2

Hej!
Today's breakfast was meh (some bread and cheese we brought from home), but lunch in the city definitely made up for it :)
It was a rainy day, but still I enjoyed the sight! What a beautiful city! We bought a 7 days pass for the metro, so from tomorrow on we'll be travelling a lot more.
In the evening we went to a photography museum. The sunset was breathtaking beautiful!
Hejdå!

Stockholm, day 1

Hej!
First impression of Stockholm: cosy, warm, different sun, lovely people. I've already been to Sweden several times (although never as far north as we are now!) I was so happy to see the ICA still sells pårondryk (pear juice) and Pripps Blå  (beer with like 3% alcohol... not likely you'll get drunk)
Adjö!

Drenthe, day 4

Hi there,
This is it. My last day in Drenthe this vacation. I bought a little souvenir for on my backpack - I thought it would me nice to add something to my backpack every time I travel. Although Drenthe's nature was fascinating, and I loved the sauna, I think travelling to Stockholm will give me more of a vacation feeling.
Follow my blog for more about Stockholm... Soon, very soon. But first - do the washing!

Drenthe, day 3

Hi there,

Nothing spectacular today. Went to the Drents museum. It's been raining all day long, which makes the stay in our cottage very cosy. Did I already tell you we have a sauna here?

Drenthe, day 2

Hi there,

Do you have fear of heights? Then you should not enter the "Boomkroonpad", also known as "the treetop walk". I went up 72 feet high for a lovely view. Totally worth it if you're visiting Drenthe!

Drenthe, day 1

Hi there,
Today, on our first real day in Drenthe, we visited "kamp Westerbork" (The Westerbork transit camp). I came to learn that its function during the WOII was to assemble Romani and Dutch Jews for transport to other Nazi concentration camps. In total there were 107.000 Jews, Romani and Sinti deported to Bergen Belsen and Auschwitz.
We also took a lovely walking path through the forest, leading us to the Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope (WSRT). This is an impressive aperture synthesis interferometer near camp Westerbork. It consists of a linear array (which makes it even more impressive!) of 14 antennas with a diameter of 25 metres.
Westerbork (Camp Westerbork as well as the WSRT) was a very interesting place to be for me as a Dutch Lit student, because the setting of "De ontdekking van de Hemel" (The Discovery of Heaven"), takes place here. This book was written by one of my favorite authors, Harry Mulisch.
Thank you for reading and I hope you come by soon for more travelling news!
